Smoking cigarettes
It would probably come as a shock to most people who know me in NZ that I used to smoke over a pack a day back in the UK, and I gave up smoking a little over 10 years ago (the day before 9/11, when we left the UK).
The cost of a pack has been rising in the past decade, so without trying to do clever maths I’m just going to pick $10 as a rough average of my daily smoking costs, had I continued smoking. 10 years, 365 days at 10 dollars a day - easy math, shocking result.
I have saved $36,500 over the past ten years by quitting.
